Gestural Motion
Draw a motion path by hand or drop in a shape preset, and send your layer along it, with smoothing, auto-orient, and stagger.
What it does
Gestural Motion turns a path into real Figma Motion keyframes. Draw the movement by hand with a pencil, or pick a shape preset, and the tool sends your layers along it. Select layers, sketch the movement, preview it, then bake.

Getting started
Five steps, and you can iterate on the path as much as you like before committing.
- 1
- Select one or more layers inside a frame.
- 2
- Draw a path on the canvas with the pencil, or tap a shape preset (circle, wave, spiral, zigzag, figure-8).
- 3
- Press play to preview.
- 4
- Adjust scale, smoothing, duration, and easing.
- 5
- Hit Bake to write the keyframes into the timeline.
Motion types
The top row picks how the path is created: Pencil freehand, plus Circle, Wave, Spiral, Zigzag, and Figure-8 presets. You can also use a selected vector layer as the path. The tool reads its outline and drives your layers along it.
Single vs Stagger
Single moves every layer along the path in unison. Stagger offsets each layer slightly later than the last for a cascade, and the stagger slider sets the per-layer delay. Stagger reads best with three or more layers.
Reverse & Auto-orient
Reverse travels the path end-to-start. Auto-orient rotates each layer to face its direction of travel, so a shape banks into its turns; the smoothing control decides how tightly the rotation tracks the path.
Controls
Scale multiplies the path size. Smooth refines hand-drawn paths and softens auto-orient rotation. Duration sets the total length, and Easing shapes the acceleration along the path.
Shortcuts & tips
Re-draw as many times as you like before baking. Only Bake writes to the timeline. Use Reset (top-right of the canvas) to start fresh.
- Space
- Play / pause preview.
- B
- Bake keyframes.
- Cmd/Ctrl+Z
- Undo last path.
- Esc
- Stop preview.
