Split a text layer into characters, words, or lines and bake a staggered reveal onto each: no manual splitting, no rigging.

What it does

Kinetic Type splits a selected text layer into per-character, per-word, or per-line nodes and bakes a staggered reveal onto each one. It replaces the tedious work of manually breaking up text and hand-keying every piece. You pick how to split, choose a reveal, and it animates each element on its own offset.

Workflow

Select one or more text layers. Choose how to split them, pick a reveal preset (or Custom to define your own start offsets), tune the timing, then Bake.

Direction controls the order elements come in (forward, reverse, or from the center outward), and Distance sets how far each element travels before it settles.

Custom reveals

Beyond the built-in presets, Custom mode exposes Affect squares for Position, Scale, Rotation, and Opacity, so you define exactly what each split element does as it reveals. Toggle a property on and drag to set its amount, the same way the other field tools work.

Timing tokens

The Duration, Easing, and Stagger cards can each be linked to a Motif token. Click link and pick one. Linked cards stay in sync with your token system, so a change to the token updates every place it's used; unlink a card to edit that value by hand.

Non-destructive

Keep source layer (on by default) animates a copy and mutes the original. Your editable text stays intact. Restore brings the original back, and Re-explode re-applies the effect after you've edited the source. Turn the toggle off only if you want to permanently replace the text in the design.
